VLC Media Player Nightly is a new version of the popular media player designed to play Blu-ray discs.

VLC Media Player is easily one of the most widely used, versatile, and feature-rich media players in the world. Its only limitation has been its inability to play Blu-ray discs, but that changes with this release.

The Nightly version of VLC comes with the familiar interface and functionality of the original. In addition to its massive library of codexes that allow it to play virtually any type of video or audio media file, it now has the ability to play partially encrypted Blu-ray discs. This version will not play fully encrypted discs for legal reasons, but when the full version is released we can expect a fully functional Blu-ray player.

VLC is one of the world's most popular media players not only because it supports so many media types, but also because it has such an extensive range of functions. Right-clicking on a video as it is playing will bring up a menu where you'll find a variety of options at your disposal.

Through the VLC player, you can send audio to the sound device of your choice. When playing a DVD or Blu-ray disc, the player will detect the number of audio tracks if your file has multiple audio tracks, as well as the available subtitle tracks and available chapters. You can alter many display details, including the aspect ratio and playback speed. Opening the extended settings panel provides even more possibilities for customization.

The Tools menu gives you access to even more settings. You can change the interface from the Customize Interface option, or open up the main settings from the Preferences option. From there, you can explore a vast range of back-end settings that other media players can only hope to emulate.

As this is effectively a beta release, there may be stability issues. You have the option of sending crash data to the VLC team to help them improve the program.
